Glad you're on the site, Uncle Marty!  Mt. Lions in the Adirondacks would be a great film, as would something on that wilderness area in general.

Ok all you cyber-nature guru buddies of my most precious niece....here are somethings to consider...

My territory is the Adirondacks. We have had at least 3 "siting " of mountalin lions (black panthers) despite the dismissals of the professionals.  The area is the Siamese wilderness area where a wild cat could roam with minimum contact with humans.  About 16 years ago while cross-country skiing in the dead of winter at 10F a large black cat (larger than our Lab Retriver) crossed our path about 30 yards ahead and faded into the woods.  It's belly hung low and paw prints very large.  It was no bobcat.  Years later a hunter told me that he had spotted one in the same Wilderness area.  Get your cameras and go deep into that area (bring GPS and survival gear, esp in winter) and hike wisely and don't litter my territory!

There are also moose coming back into the Adirondacks but popuation is small due to virus in food chain coming from deer droppings (so say the experts).

Also there is an effort to re-introduce the timber wolf into the Adirondacks High Peaks Area but the local population is against it for fear of dogs, cats becoming edibles. Plenty of cyote, bear and deer but they all remain elusive(but we do chat from time to time) because of the expanse of Adirondack wilderness...thank God!

Finally, the deer count on Staten Island is about 40.

Vanessa, Honey, you have a great web-site and you make your nature pappy proud...and mother and Uncle as well, I might add.

Great stuff Vanessa. Love the idea of a snake-a-thon, it's totally normal!

Can't wait to see the next installment.
