This is my first post here on Nature Break, and I think you guys might find it interesting!

Facing me in the middle of the lawn was a huge, shaggy, black male wolf with a white female running off into the woods in my backyard.
I used to always like to give my cat…

My goal, herpwise, for 2010 was to find 100 species and subspecies of reptiles and amphibians in their natural habitats. I achieved that goal with the finding of my lifer blotched watersnake (
Nerodia erythrogaster transversa) on September 13th.
I am pleased that I have been able to get out so much this year and herp in so many different habitats and localities. I have been able to herp Northern and Southern California, Southern Arizona, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I…

It was quite a bit cooler today and apparently the low for tonight is supposed to be as low as 60 degrees here, so I decided to go out and try to get a lifer I've been hoping for since I've been here... I haven't really gone looking for them because of the heat, but today it all worked out... and I didn't just find what I was looking for, I found my target in an incredible situation that I have never had the privilege of witnessing up close with any snake in the…

I've been living in California for the past 25 years... err... my entire life (minus a herpingless summer spent working in Chicago) and I decided recently that it's time to move. There aren't a lot of things left here for me to find and I have to leave some for when I return someday. My original plan was to move to Tucson, Arizona so I can live within an hour of some of the best possible herping in the United States. That was going well. I found a decent place to live and had planned on being…

Vanessa, we have invasive giant toads in our neighborhood. They are competing with our native southern toad and look very similar. It is very hard for us to "kill" anything (we don't even kill black widows). What do you recommend we do? Since they are not native they have no predators and can potentially multiply out of control. We believe the toad poisoned our dog who has severe health issues. How can we get rid of…

Austin Haley, 5, was killed by a stray bullet fired by a police officer attempting to shoot a snake.
NOBLE, Okla. — A stray bullet fired by a police officer trying to shoot a snake hit and killed a 5-year-old boy fishing at a nearby pond, officials said.
Austin Haley was fishing with his grandfather, Jack Tracy, Friday evening when Tracy said he heard a shot and saw a…

The snake was actualy an adult Boa constrictor and was 7 foot. Probably being fed large rats not rabbits, dogs, or children. The story makes it to be a monster and it was just a scared loose pet that go outside.
