NatureBreak

Why not take a nature break in your back yard? There needs to be more available information on building a habitat in your yard. I can help with this to a certain extent. You can plant trees, but are they a good food source for wild life? You can plant flowers for butterflies, but are the nectar rich varieties or are they just attracting them? Are you planting things for the catterpillars to eat? By planting a butterfly garden and a catterpillar garden both you can have endless numbers of butterflies. Why not talk a little more about back yard wild life and encouraging our neighbors to do the same. In many cases you can use native plants as hedges and specimens and support animals. You don't have to use Home Depot sterile crap all the time. Lets get this information on here and talk about it as well. Why not post on our pages what we are doing for a nature break in our yards as well as when we are out exploring. If you can make how to videos you should do so. Here are some pictures of what is going on in my yard.

Great idea Marten! We're actually working hard to convert our back yard into a native ecosystem. We've been planting a lot of natives and are starting to see results. I recently saw some Monarch caterpillars on our milkweed plants.

I shot a piece on getting rid of our invasive ivy. When we bought our house half of the back yard was covered with it. It was really difficult to get rid of but worth it. I just have to edit the video together and then I'll be able to share it with the community. I'll also work on some more videos about other ways you can make your local environment more nature-friendly. Thanks for the idea!
